First mobile post on desire!

Simply put, desire is the best phone that I have ever used. It hasi got every thing that I want packaged in a cool looking interface. If I really have to.come up with a downside, I guess that’d be it’s short battery life.

Ray

Guess my Gyu Kaku pics can wait.

Went fishing with Ray today. I meant I went to watch him and his friends fish. I have a phobia near large bodies of water so fishing isn’t really the ideal hobby for me, but it sure is a great opportunity to take some nice pictures and videos.

Left my place early in the morning and got myself nicely roasted under the scorching sun at Kranji. If you thought fishing is just something that only requires you to sit and wait for the fish to bite the bait. You haven’t seen real fishing actions yet. It is definitely as vigorous and as exciting as many outdoor sports. The prey can really put up a fight.

Check out Ray’s fight. The lag in between was caused by the shutter, I took 2 pictures while shooting the video. Guess that wasn’t such a bright idea.

Spider

Went to Sungei Buloh after the fishing trip since it was near by. Brought my 40D along so that Ray can take shoot some photos. We managed to capture some nice shots using the macro lens (yes it is not that useless after all) on 5DMkII and the telephoto lens on 40D. Both Ray and I were pleased with the outcome.

All in all it was a great Sunday!

Jogged and blog.

Jogged today and processed some photos.

AMK Central

Just haven’t found a nice place to capture the “AMK” feeling.

Night scene

Maybe the night scene will do better?

I should do the overdue write up for Ippudo. The pictures that I saw on HungryGoWhere did no justice to the actual ramen. Not that it was great though.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit – Hands on

windows7_beta_boot_screen

This is probably the biggest perk that I have enjoyed as an Accenture employee. A licensed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate N thanks to the MSDN subscription I got.

I must say that things didn’t go as planned during the installation. I had to do a clean install because the 64 bit installer wouldn’t boot from Vista 32 bits. Then I realized I downloaded the N version instead of the regular version. Meaning that all forms of media support was stripped from the install. There was no Media Player 12, no support for MP3s and everything else. That made me quite upset as I have spent more than 3 hours downloading the ISO from MSDN.

Any way things got on really smoothly after I downloaded and installed the missing media pack from Microsoft. My games worked smoothly after the pack was installed. Microsoft really did go out of its way to make it a pain for those unlucky European consumers with the N version of Windows 7. The OS is handicapped without the media features. Just imagine a computer without the ability to play .avi and .mp3 files. You can’t even run Warcraft III.

As expected, Windows 7 64 bit is running along smoothly. The naysayer warned me about the potential software issues which I have yet to encounter any. Besides the additional hassle of downloading and installing certain 32 bit programs (like the JRE). Everything is working along pretty well. The driver coverage is pretty extensive as well, besides the graphics card driver (I am running ATI cross-fire) there is nothing that I have to install to make things work, even the USB wireless dongle worked without its native drivers.

Will share more as the days go by. And if time allows.

Google Wave

As you can see I have finally received my Google Wave Developer account.

I have taken the stock web page implementation and added it to the sidebar. It is ugly but functional.

Scroll to the right and move your cursor to the timestamp, you should be able to see the options there. Right now there is a conflict with my blog’s CSS theme. But it will still work if you ignore the color discrepancies .

GW is currently restricted to users with a sandbox account. So if you reply or enter a message there you will appear as me. So bear with it for the time being.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to any place that offers real food. Thanks to the hectic work schedule that I have, 14 hours a day, 5 days a week and 9 to 5 on Saturdays.

Therefore the painful experience I have at Botejyu (Liang Court) only made my life worse. The business model of serving people frozen food and making them pay much more than the its cost is sure to fail one of these days. Before I get sued I think I should retract that statment. I don’t know if Botejyu serves frozen food or not. It’s just that their Tofu Burger set tasted like some Japanese TV Dinner set gone wrong.

Aware Gay
My head is hurting from all the conflicting and stupid (for the lack of a better term) views that people have regarding the recent AWARE leadership shuffle.

AWARE stands for “Association of Women for Action & Research”. It is a non profit organization that advocates “Gender equality for all”. From the name and its mission statement, I think it is clear that it is a feminist organization to all of us. I am all for feminism, in the sense that I believe that men and women should have the same fundamental rights, like the right to vote, the right to employment and such. However the first thing that makes my head hurt is the way that women define equality. The equality seems to only apply to those rights that benefit them. I have yet to come across any feminist demanding the privilege to serve in the army along the men. But let’s reserve that for another post, if I have the time.

What really ticks me off is that AWARE really seem to have been infiltrated. No, I am not talking about the all-Christian, all-Chinese new executive community. I am talking about the previous pro homosexual one. In an organization called “Association of Women for Action & Research” I fail to see the place of a “Male Chapter”. Especially when the leader of the Male Chapter is keen (and I quote) to “deconstruct male gender & male heterosexual hegemony“.  So the male homosexuals are now considered women? WTF?

I can list serveral more examples of how AWARE has gone gay, all the materials and references are provided by the ex-exco of AWARE. It is clear that AWARE does have a pro homosexual agenda. We shall just respect a secular organization’s right to be as gay loving as they wish. After all this is a supposedly free country that still criminalizes sodomy.

Having said the above, I fully understand why the ex-exco bunch of Christians are concerned. By definitions Christians are supposed to be against homosexuals, after all Sodom and Gomorrah were nuked by God for a reason. But by making the showdown public, in a secular country where the number of secular people far outnumber the number of religious faithfuls, this is a battle that they cannot win. Sure enough they were ousted on 2nd of May.

My view has always been that I will respect your fucking rights if you respect my right to view your fucking right as wrong. You have the right to screw with whoever you want (get it? fucking right.) , but I have the right to make a moral judgment on that. Homosexuality is not normal. It is also considered as a sin. Do it if you want.

Now allow my rant to continue. This is directed at the self proclaiming hypocritical Christians who say that they should be against the change of leadership in AWARE. Please fuck off ok? Staying neutral is not the same as going against. I see a bunch of people saying that we shall not judge but they keep forgetting that it doesn’t mean we should just remain oblivious, it just means that we shouldn’t become overtly judgmental. However we should always be ready to stand for what we believe and point out what is wrong. See http://www.biblebelievers.com/jmelton/Judging.html

Any way, as my past experiences show, people don’t like to be wrong. If you manage to prove that they are, they will just deny it. Eventually it just evolve into a huge verbal sparring with no real meaning. I am just glad that I can bitch about it here and forget the next day.

Introducing BitNami

bitnami

Well, BitNami is basically a pre packaged stack for the interesting web applications out there that you want to run.

It includes the HTTP, Database, and other relevant software libraries that you need to run a self hosted web application. Saving you the pain of installing the various components.

Well… I am not convinced at how reliable this thing is, despite its claims of not interfering with your existing software configuration. I’ve been trying to install this “Tracks” web app for the past 2 hours and it doesn’t seem to play well at all. Kept dying at the Starting MySQL part of the installation process.

Maybe your luck will be better huh?

Update:
I figured out the problem. My old installation of MySQL 5.1 wasn’t completed successfully. I had to reinstall it using an anonymous account on the local machine. BitNami’s Track Stack then installed without a hitch. I guess some junk was left inside the registry when I was installing the stand alone version.
