Went fishing with Ray today. I meant I went to watch him and his friends fish. I have a phobia near large bodies of water so fishing isn’t really the ideal hobby for me, but it sure is a great opportunity to take some nice pictures and videos.
Left my place early in the morning and got myself nicely roasted under the scorching sun at Kranji. If you thought fishing is just something that only requires you to sit and wait for the fish to bite the bait. You haven’t seen real fishing actions yet. It is definitely as vigorous and as exciting as many outdoor sports. The prey can really put up a fight.
Check out Ray’s fight. The lag in between was caused by the shutter, I took 2 pictures while shooting the video. Guess that wasn’t such a bright idea.
Went to Sungei Buloh after the fishing trip since it was near by. Brought my 40D along so that Ray can take shoot some photos. We managed to capture some nice shots using the macro lens (yes it is not that useless after all) on 5DMkII and the telephoto lens on 40D. Both Ray and I were pleased with the outcome.
Just haven’t found a nice place to capture the “AMK” feeling.
Maybe the night scene will do better?
I should do the overdue write up for Ippudo. The pictures that I saw on HungryGoWhere did no justice to the actual ramen. Not that it was great though.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to any place that offers real food. Thanks to the hectic work schedule that I have, 14 hours a day, 5 days a week and 9 to 5 on Saturdays.
Therefore the painful experience I have at Botejyu (Liang Court) only made my life worse. The business model of serving people frozen food and making them pay much more than the its cost is sure to fail one of these days. Before I get sued I think I should retract that statment. I don’t know if Botejyu serves frozen food or not. It’s just that their Tofu Burger set tasted like some Japanese TV Dinner set gone wrong.
A quick snap when I was at Sim Lim Square last week with Keri to make her waste $60 on a new power supply. I thought the sunset looked nice. There was a rainbow at the other end, but I am too lazy to edit the picture and post it on my flickr.
See, I haven’t forgotten about making use of my expensive DSLR. Just that I haven’t been taking as many pictures as before. There’s less inclination to go out and venture when you are broke.
Did a photo shoot with Ray and his girl friend during last week’s holiday. I have since learned the importance of having an entourage of assistants who will make sure the lighting looks right. Just having a single flash is not enough.
No wonder you see all the lighting instruments that are carried around by photographers. They are really essential.
Was at Clare’s place yesterday for a no costume Halloween party. Well, it was just like how she described it “Fuck it lah, just drink”. Met a group of Clare’s friends and took many candid shots at the house party.
The pictures were decent. But I guess I am not used to taking this kind of event pictures. People won’t really pose for you so you will have to capture the special moments when they come.
Note to self, tone down the flash light or get a diffuser next time. The picture looked like they were taken under florescent light when it was really just the flash bouncing off the roof.
Made a day trip to the botanic gardens on Tuesday. The weather was lousy but the pictures turned out to be pretty alright. I took a bunch of pictures without noting down the names of the plants in them. Guess I won’t be able to sell them as stock picture after all.
Was out with Ray yesterday to take some pictures of his car. Turned out that even though the weather was disappointing, we still managed to capture a couple nice shots. Albeit with plenty of photoshopping.
The above pic is a HDR picture merged with Photomatix and post processed in photoshop.
I have been trying to make some nice looking HDR (High Dynamic Range) pictures for a while. The results are mostly disappointing with Photoshop CS3 because the steps are not so fool proof.
Finally decided to go with Photomatix instead. Now I know why people recommend it as the software of choice for rendering HDR images. It has really simple interface (though not very professional looking) that works and shows the result in a few clicks. All the relevant tone mapping options are there after you have merged your images and created your HDR.
