Ramen in Singapore
Last updated on 4, July 2010.
Below is a quick and dirty run down of places where you can find Japanese ramen in Singapore. The number besides includes my rating of them. I personally loath the idea of simplistic rating system because I find it is a poor indicator of the actual taste of the food. But then again I have yet to come across a better way to convey your personal liking than a score based system.
Recommendations for new ramen places in Singapore are welcome.
Ajisen – 6/10 Japanese franchise. Edible, don’t be too picky. Might encounter a particularly bad outlet though.
Marutama – See pics/review here
Ramen Ten – 3/10 Local franchise, save yourself the time and money please.
Noodle Shop Ken – 7/10 rather authentic, nothing striking though.
Miharu – 7.5/10 extra 0.5 for the strong broth, which I like.
Menya Shinchan – See pics/review here.
Biefu - It is spicy and mouth numbing. It is also nothing great.
Baikoken – Buy a packet of instant ramen. Both taste about the same. Good portions though.
Ichiban Tei - See pics/review here.
Kadoman – If I can put a huge skull with cross bone sign here, I would. See pics/review here.
Santouka – Tonkusen ramen franchise. If you like a overpowering broth, go pay your dues. See pics/review here.
Men-Tei – This place is like the introductory course for ramen. It is probably not the best out there but definitely a good place to begin and try with. See the complete review or view the photo gallery 7/10.
Nantsuttei – New hot favourite among the ramen lovers in Singapore (as of June 2010). Authentic ramen with black sesame oil. Thick broth yet not overpowering your sense. 7.5/10 See the full review here.
